Postcard #1: 1909 Postcard

The first postcard in our series is a reproduction of a postcard from the Hudson Fulton Celebration of 1909. It was illustrated by Clarence K.Chatterton who also illustrated the cover of the softcover edition of the 1909 celebration. Mr. Chatterton's office was approximately where the second story of the present library is on the Montgomery Street side. One can still get an idea of his view from this vantage point.

The uniqueness of this image is the occurence of the derigible and the hot air balloon in the same illustration. Newburgh Bay was the center of 1909 celebration as all the ships participating in the event on the river converged from the north and the south right here in our bay.
