This image is reproduced from a 1909 folding postcard depicting the historical anniversaries celebrated that year. It is a glorified scene, depicted here by Frank J. Boyer, of Henrik Hudson's third voyage in 1609, landing on the shores of the river named after him. The image is based on an original painting by Robert W. Weir (or Edgar Mayhew Bacon's 1902 engraving based on the same painting). Hudson, although English, was flying the Dutch flag as it was the country which financed his voyages.
